Friends of Weedon Island, Inc.

Welcome to our website. We hope that you find it easy to navigate and full of discovery about Pinellas County’s “Place to Remember.”

Weedon Island Preserve protects more than 3,700 acres of natural coastal ecosystems. Located at 1800 Weedon Island Drive N.E. in St. Petersburg, FL, it is owned by the state of Florida and managed by Pinellas County. The Preserve is open to the public from sun-up to sundown, offering many outdoor activities including hiking, paddling, and fishing. The Preserve's Cultural and Natural History Center features an interactive, family-friendly permanent exhibit, Connecting People and Place, offering visitors an art-inspired, hands-on educational approach to the area’s history, ecology, and people. The Center also hosts a wide range of programs and events for people of all ages. The Center is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9AM to 4PM.

To register for these programs, please call (727) 453-6500. For more information about Weedon Island Preserve call (727) 453-6900 or visit its website as found on our "Links" page.

This website was initially developed in 2008 as a Girl Scout Gold Award Project by Abby King, a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 44. Abby has been a member of the Friends of Weedon Island for many years. A special thank you to Mrs. Jane Baker and Dr. Bruce Rinker for their contribution and invaluable input during the construction of the website.
